About me... |
Addy Cakes all began back in 2011 when I was a high school senior in Kansas City. Due to a tennis injury, I was recovering from my first hip surgery. Bored out of my mind, I decided to start playing around with new cupcake recipes in the kitchen (yes, on crutches). I had perfected my now signature chocolate buttercream and was working on a raspberry filling. Once I paired those two elements with a moist, decadent chocolate cake I knew I had struck gold.
My dad, a lover and huge supporter of sweets, tried my new treat and instantly fell in love. He looked at me and said, "I would pay a lot of money to eat these every day." From there my wheels started turning and my "go-getter" attitude took over. That's when I first had the idea to create Addy Cakes. I started out with small cupcake orders for friends and family, and by word-of-mouth the news spread fast. From here, I was getting orders for local businesses, First Communions, and eventually weddings from people I didn't know. I had to learn on my feet how to run a business basically overnight. Things like advertising, managing finances and customer service were so foreign to me, but you name it I was doing it. Spring semester of my senior year, I discovered I had been accepted into my dream school - Texas Christian University. I had two options: either stop Addy Cakes or continue running it while attending TCU. Well, I wasn't going to let my precious new baby die. I worked out of my freshman dorm's basement, in older friend's houses and basically anywhere else I could find an oven and a mixer. When I returned home for breaks, the orders piled up and I got to work. My sophomore year I lived in my sorority's house and worked out of its kitchen. Now a senior at TCU, I live in a house off campus with my own kitchen and my own Kitchen-Aid mixer. I currently still take orders in Fort Worth and back in Kansas City over breaks. I am so thankful to be able to continue what I love to do! |
